Such a creative yet simple idea to recreate child photos. The most impressive part for me is all the work that went into replicating the clothing and accessories. Even if the composition is pre-given to you, SO much work is going into this that most photos take for granted (clothing, location, etc.).

Sculptures from this period are unparalleled. My mind is blown by the details of the hands and veins. How is such smooth precision chipped from marble? I remember my senses going haywire in the Louvre when they were convinced that these marble tush’s would squish if touched.

When I saw the calligraphy I could not help but instantly recall the energy, color, and simple line quality encapsulated by Haring’s work. Testimony of our collective humanity, and the tastes of our consciousness.

One of my first favorite contemporary artists. He expanded my understanding of collage and design, and even gave 9th-grade-Tonia words of encouragement. These vintage magazine images give a commercial legitimacy to silly ideas. The best part is, that you can download some Recif-made typography as fonts for your computer!

I caught Parker’s “Focus” exhibit at the Modern in Ft Worth. His line is so CLEAN. The psychedelic colors titillate my eyes, though I wish that I DIDN’T notice that these were all faces.

Parker varies his subject matter from time to time but all in good humor. I can’t find a picture of the sides of the canvases, which he would doodle hilarious phrases on. So here is a painting where the front is hilarious.

Also, there was a smaller room of his work that poked fun at generic subjects such as flower vases, and bowls of fruit.

It’s no secret that I am insatiably envious of simplistic collage. Phaedra is a master of getting just enough picture in just the right places to make my eyes feel at peace.

Such great design. Complex layering balanced by simple backgrounds.

This girl is great. I love her sketches and scraps the most (oddly enough). Great hand for drawing, and great eye for where to add color. I also like her blog more than her website.

I do love dance music, but this is about doing a lot with one thing: hands. A dancer’s study. I have my own series on hands, admittedly way less lively.
